"Art is the stored honey of the human soul, gathered
on wings of misery and travail."
----Theodore
Dreiser, American Author

Art provides opportunities for youth to create something that
helps them express how they feel. In fact, we believe that the
creative process has immeasurable therapeutic value and engage
all of our students in the arts. Whether it takes the form of
painting, sculpture, singing or acting, the arts are alive at
Uta Halee Girls Village and Cooper Village.
Arts in the Villages is part of our program in
many ways: Our schools teach art classes, we involve art in our
Rec Therapy sessions and we are fortunate to have community artists
bring their special talents to our youth. Guest artists help the
youth create on many different levels, and some of this work has
even been on display publicly.
There is a tremendous amount of research that validates the benefits
of art in our lives. This becomes even more important when art
helps us understand what is going on with youth who may not have
the capacity to share the feelings they are experiencing.
